Apollo collection signals the brandÕs continued interest in developing novel design and applying new material. Following up the two previous versions, the new Apollo (REF.PY041) does better on both qualities and continues to take inspiration from universal exploration. This time Phoibos renders the new release in titanium again featuring the camouflage dial with an unusual pattern.
The whole watch is made of titanium including the case, bracelet, bezel, crown and buckle, meaning it feels considerably lighter than stainless steel watch and more comfortable on the wrist. This aerospace-grade titanium is also coated with anti-scratch Titanium coating rated as HV1200 (updated from HV800 in Apollo 1.0) solving the issue of titaniumÕs scratchability. All bring up a watch that is both light and durable enough for daily wear or any adventure.
Referring to the dial of the new Apollo, it is the brand's first time to introduce a watch in the camouflage style. Apart from the classic black and white dial in grainy texture, the rest come with carbon fiber dials in an unusual camo pattern named as Jungle Camo Green, Lava Flow Red and Dark Matter Blue. The green one is like our planetÕs lungs Ð the flourishing rainforest, the red color inspired from the crust and molten rivers of lava that formed our planet billions of years ago and the blue is the mysterious Dark Matter that is everywhere in our galaxy and captivates our imagination for unknown space. Along with the aesthetic look in the unique camo pattern, the carbon fiber dial possesses qualities of lightness, high stiffness, and durability corrosion resistance.
They are camouflaged watches but refuse to hide on your wrist by its striking unusual design. The watchÕs 41_48MM titanium case has a finely brushed finishing; its shape follows the template of previous Apollo designs, but the crown is back at the typical 3 o' clock position for easy access and manipulation by the right. In its 12.5MM thick case, Miyota 9015 holds the strong power reserve and keeps high precision. As usual, it also features a 120-click unidirectional rotating bezel with DLC titanium insert ring that increases durability and resistance to scratches. Under the flat sapphire crystal with AR coating, the minute hand and hour hand (with a skeleton-like construction) in distinctive design are like two spacecrafts flying around a planet. Especially in dark, its rocket tail flame would be presented by lume, adding a little fun for this watch. When it comes to the lume, it is highlighted by the Grade A Super-Luminova coated on hands and bezel markings. Indices are thickly printed by the Grade A lume as well standing out on the dial.
Coming with 30 ATM water resistance, this watch is a no-brainer choice when it comes to underwater adventures. Titanium, camo style, carbon fiber, anti-scratch coating, Grade A Super-Luminova and caliber 9015 fit together perfectly to present a prominent watch on the wrist with some seriously tough and sporty appeal.
